Plot[]

Jory received 2 iPods to be microwaved. One was by Dan Paddington, and the other by Michael Kurtske. Jory placed them inside a General Electric Turntable Microwave (Lacey), one of them standing up before setting off the timer. Initially, sparks apparently flew from the wheels of the iPod. Smoke vented out of the iPod and after a while, the 2 iPods exploded violently with enough force to blast open the door. Jory declared it a good idea to microwave an iPod inside a microwave. If you can't repair an iPod, might as well microwaving it before upgrading to the iPhone, anyways. However Jory advised against replicating this experiment in your own home microwave for safety's sake even though it is a good idea.

Trivia[]

  • This episode was released in conjunction of the release of the new generation of the iPhone 3G.
  • Jon said that the iPod explosion actually damaged the tarp. It had little burn holes in it from the shrapnel.
  • Jory and Jon received a third iPod via donation, from AtotheJ1822. However, this one was not permanently broken. The guys fixed the iPod video for $40 and kept it. They gave it to Ezra at one point. In fact, Ezra might still have it. This is the first big donation they ever kept; later, they kept a PS3, which was eventually microwaved in the first episode of season 8.
  • This is the first experiment since the ping-pong balls to blow the door open, and it's the first experiment to blow open a push-button door.
  • This was the first good idea since 3x022 - Water balloon, breaking a twelve-episode bad idea streak.
  • The iPod Explosion was used in the intros of Season 6 and 8.
  • The models of the iPods were an iPod mini 1st generation (the blue one) and an iPod classic 4th generation (the white one). The iPod classic was the one that exploded, based on the remains.

Quotes[]

  • Jory: And Lacey, the new love of my life. She's everything I wanted but never really had.

Jon: Even though she's the smallest microwave?

Jory: Yeah, before, I thought "bigger is better." I don't think so, I don't think so! It's not the size of the magnetron, it's the ratio between wattage and cubic feet, I think.

  • Jory: You can kinda see through the mini's buttons. You can see right through!
  • Jory: I must say, iPods, for electronics are extremely rugged.

Jon: (sees one fall over) Oh! Maybe not!

  • Jon: I hear a "click-click" sound, but I don't think it's the wheel!
  • Jon: I suppose if it catches on fire, you'd find out about it, right?

Jory: I don't know. (microwave explodes)
