Plot
Jory proposes an experiment involving Pop-Tarts where the pastries remain in their foil wrapping, which goes against printed instructions on the pouch. Almost immediately after initiating a 30-second cooking session, this wrapping (much like the previous episode's sheet of foil) sparks and compresses around the Pop-Tarts. This brief reaction is the worst of it, however, as little else happens during the run, although Jory begins noticing the smell of the pastries permeating the laboratory, indicating that they are probably ready to be checked. Part of the foil wrapping is split atop the Pop-Tarts, which allows Jory to break the pair in halves with ease, and he observes that they indeed were cooked through thoroughly. Impressed by the outcome as well as the "light show", he deems this experiment a success, awarding the show's first-ever Good Idea to wrapped Pop-Tarts.
Trivia
- This is the first episode where Jory fully plays his monotone character of season 1. Jon said that Jory purposely acted like a "stoner" and as if he were reading cue cards.
- This is also the first episode which shows the finalized version of the title sequence used for Season 1. (Among minor edits, a still shot of Jory cowering is nearer the end of the sequence than before.)
- The Pop-Tarts seemed to be the Frosted Cookies & Crème flavor, based on appearance.
- At 30 seconds, this is the shortest microwave time ever used.
- At the end, Jory refers to the show as "Is This a Good Idea to Microwave?"
Quotes
- Jory: "It says, 'Do not microwave in this pouch.' So, we're gonna microwave it in the pouch!"
- Jory: "It's kinda like a baked potato you wrap in tin foil. Plus, it was an awesome light show! I totally recommend doing this. Why? Dinner AND a movie!"
